HPOA Charitable Foundation

The HPOA works diligently together to enhance the quality of life in the Henderson community through community service and charitable giving. Each year, they participate in civic service events through their HPOA Charitable Foundation; an IRS recognized 501(c) 3 non-profit, public charity; which they formed in 2006. One of their signature events is “Shop with a Cop,” which consists of over 100 local, deserving children (obtained through various sources) being paired with police officers who take them shopping in a local Target store for their holiday gifts. At the event, children and families are also provided with a breakfast and visit from Santa, who is appropriately escorted by a police motorcade convoy.

Each year, the HPOA also initiates a charitable, direct mail campaign in order to increase donations to the non-profit organizations they partner with and serve. Members participate in safety nights hosted by the City of Henderson to spread messages of violence prevention and safety awareness. Additional charitable efforts include their participation in the annual charitable hockey game against local fire fighters, as well as donations to S.A.F.E. House to assist victims of domestic violence.

This year we are launching a new campaign, “Cross with a Cop” with the Henderson Police Department and City of Henderson. During the week from October 6 to October 10, officers will be pairing with elementary school crossing guards to assist in walking children across the street in order to raise awareness on crosswalk safety.

This campaign is geared specically towards children using crosswalks to travel to and from school. Off-duty officers will be stationed at pre-selected schools during the afternoon hours when the children are released. As part of the campaign, officers will distribute sticker badges to the children they assist in walking across the streets that state “I Crossed with a Cop.”

The HPOA remains involved in the Henderson business community through their membership to the Henderson Chamber of Commerce, and Water Street District Business Association.
